Safety Practices

Canada's food system is one of the safest in the world. At the Elk Ranch, we fully support and comply with the safety standards and guidelines established by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Some of these standards include:

Food safety standards

Prior to processing, each elk is carefully inspected for reportable diseases as per the protocols established by the CFIA. All 'reportable' diseases are effectively controlled and eliminated by the CFIA when identified. Non-reportable diseases are detected and controlled by local veterinarians and producers.

Processing plants

All of our elk are processed at federally inspected or provincially inspected plants. The rules and regulations governing these processing plants are set by the CFIA to ensure that the plants conform to their exceedingly high standards of food safety practices.

Herd inspections

Our elk herd is inspected and tested for diseases by the CFIA on a regular basis.
